The Straight mutes have 5 configurations. All Aluminum, Brass Bottom, Copper Bottom, Vulkan, and Carbon Fiber.

In my opinion the Copper Bottom gives a warmer, more colorful sound compared to the other metal ones with slightly less focus. Where the brass bottom is more focused and carries over distance more, and the aluminum has a lighter sound meeting in the middle between the two others.

The carbon fiber one by far is the lightest weight and the most durable. It lends itself to a slightly mellower sound compared to the metal straight mutes. The Vulkan mute is designed to mimic the old-school Stone Lined cone straight mutes from the Big Band era, or for modern pieces that specify a Fiber mute over a metal one. In my opinion these definitely outclass the Stone Lined ones.

The Compact Practice mute sits flush in the bell, making it able to fit in your bell in the case on most cases. The standard practice mute mimics the look and feel of a straight mute.
