WElcome!

Thank you for considering brass instrument private instruction with Josh and Laura Omaits. You are one step closer to advancing your skill sets in music!

Lesson Overview

Lessons with Josh or Laura are one-on-one in-person to allow for maximum value in instruction. Lessons are intensive personal-training sessions for your musical skills. We strive to challenge all of my students and see them succeed, without making it too difficult or stressful. We teach all varieties of brass instruments including Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, and Tuba at all skill levels. Laura is also versed in teaching beginning woodwind lessons including Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone. We are particularly proficient in working with advanced skill-level students as well as beginning students with learning disabilities such as High-functioning Autism Spectrum, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and similar.

On top of musical instruction, we are very knowledgeable in the realm of musical equipment. We always try to provide parents with the best information so that they can further their student’s learning. A poor quality instrument or mouthpiece makes it very difficult for a student to achieve success, as well as increases strain on the pocketbook.

We accept most forms of payment including cash, check, Paypal, Venmo, Cash App, and Credit Cards.

Lesson Policies

● Payment must be made before each lesson takes place. No exceptions. This means
check or cash in hand, or electronic payment sent and received when you arrive for
lessons. We charge $30 for 30 minute lessons, and $50 for 1 hour lessons for long term commitments, $75 for one-time lessons.
● Any lesson cancellations outside of National Holidays by the student or parent with notice via email, phone call, or
text message 24 hours or farther in advance will be moved to another day to make up
the time with no additional charge. This will allow me time to move the other students up
to that time slot. I will also hold myself accountable to the same policy as a teacher.
● No call-no show absences forfeit payment for that day, except for in cases of true
emergency. In the case of a day-of, or no-call-no-show cancellation without payment, an invoice requiring
payment will be sent accordingly for lessons to continue. Any advance/monthly payment
will be counted for that lesson slot as well. Permanent cancellations require one week’s notice.
● For in-person lessons, if for any reason we suspect your student to be sick in any way, the week’s
lesson will be ended, payment will not be refunded or counted towards the next lesson,
and lessons will continue as normal the following week.

● If you or your student’s instrument is not in working order outside of basic maintenance;
missing mouthpiece, missing instrument, missing parts, or requiring professional repair if
we deem necessary, we will treat the situation with the same policy as if the student were
sick. It does not matter if you are healthy if the instrument does not function. (Basic
maintenance means valves/slides needing lubricated.) I do not have replacement parts,
instruments, or mouthpieces on hand, so please plan accordingly if repairs are needed
for your instrument. We offer repairs at a separate fee and time outside of lessons if required.

  • Make sure your student's instrument is of good quality from a reputable brand. No Amazon-purchased instruments. It is ALWAYS better to purchase or rent a good quality USED instrument, than a poor quality new one. Good student-model instrument brands include: Yamaha, Vincent Bach, CG Conn, King, Olds, Blessing, Carol Brass. If your student is at an advanced level, please discuss with us about upgrading to a professional model or custom instrument. If your student shows up to their lesson with an instrument purchased from Amazon that is not one of the above listed brands, I will not teach your student until they have a proper instrument in their hands. Payment will be kept and the lesson will be treated the same as my sickness policy. I am more than happy to discuss in detail if such an occurrence happens.

  • Make sure your student's mouthpiece, maintenance equipment like oils and greases are all good quality from a reputable brand. Good standard mouthpieces are Vincent Bach, Schilke, or Yamaha.

  • Good instrument lubricants to use would be from Monster Oil. We offer a large discount to students and parents of students for lubricants and custom instruments.
